Big Walk FAQ — Hosting, Join Codes, Saves & More
✔ Last checked: 2026-08-12
Everything groups actually ask before and during their first session — condensed, with pointers to our deeper pages.
Latest patch: version 1.4.8 (August 7, 2026) — microphone calibration and volume normalisation for players who were coming through too quietly. Proximity range was left unchanged on purpose. Full details.
Getting a session running
- Pick a host. The host holds the save file and starts every session. Choose someone reliable with a solid machine and connection.
- Host starts, others join — via platform friends list, or with the Join Code the game generates each session (how joining works).
- Choose your world size — 2, 3 or 4+ players (details here).
- Sessions can be password-protected; the host can change the password mid-game under Session Details.
Saving
Nobody needs to save manually — the host’s game saves automatically. Corollary: no host, no continue. If your host goes on vacation, your walk waits.
Is there an actual goal?
Yes — Big Walk is a complete adventure with an ending, meant to be walked start-to-finish across multiple evenings. It’s also deliberately pleasant to just wander in. Both modes of play are intended.
Comfort & accessibility
This is one of the more accessibility-forward co-op games we’ve seen at launch:
- Challenge skipping: any challenge that needs hearing/reading, speaking/typing, quick reactions or fine motor skills can be skipped — the host switches this on when starting a session.
- Motion sickness: try the Motion Reduction Overlays (Settings > General) and raise the FOV (Settings > Graphics).
- Full rebinding, crosshair styles, hold/toggle input options.
Troubleshooting quick hits
- Friend’s game not showing? Add them on the platform’s friend system — or skip it and use the Join Code.
- Someone too quiet even standing next to you? Make sure everyone is on 1.4.8 or later; that patch specifically fixed under-amplified microphones. Then check Settings > Audio > Microphone Activity.
- Voices fading when you walk apart? Working as intended — not a bug and not patched. Get a walkie talkie (why).
- Echoing voices? Someone’s mic is picking up their speakers. Take turns muting to find the culprit; switch to headphones.
- Laggy players? Usually network or a struggling host — reduce the host’s graphics load, prefer wired connections.
- Performance issues? Lower Render Scale first, then Quality, then raise Render Scale back gradually.
- Stuck on scenery? A known rough edge — awkward collision and ledge-jumping come up regularly in reviews. Usually a teammate can help you out of it.

FAQ
Why can't I hear my friends properly in Big Walk?
Two likely causes. If they're quiet even up close, update the game — version 1.4.8 (August 7, 2026) fixed volume normalisation for quiet microphones. If they fade as you separate, that's intentional and unpatched: voices only carry a short distance by design, and the answer is a walkie talkie or standing closer.
How do join codes work in Big Walk?
Every time the host starts a session, the game generates a short unique code, shown in the host menu and under Session Details in-game. Share it and anyone on any platform can join — no friends list needed.
Who saves the progress?
The host, automatically. The host is the keeper of the save — when they stop the session everyone disconnects, and continuing later requires the same host.
Does Big Walk have an ending?
Yes. It's a hand-crafted adventure with a beginning, middle and end, designed to be played to completion over multiple sessions — though it also works as a place to just hang out.
Does Big Walk help with motion sickness?
It tries: there are Motion Reduction Overlays in Settings > General, and adjusting the Field of View in Settings > Graphics can also help.
Can I rebind controls?
Yes, fully — Settings > Rebinding. Mouse & keyboard and most controllers are supported, including the Switch 2's mouse mode.
What accessibility features are there?
Challenge skipping (host enables it in the accessibility menu), full control rebinding, multiple crosshair styles, hold/toggle options, FOV adjustment, motion reduction overlays, and in-game items that highlight interactives.
